The fourteenth edition of the Midad Charity Used Book Fair commenced today, Wednesday, at the premises of the Oman Automobile Association and will continue for five days, reaffirming Muscat Governorate’s leading role in supporting cultural and community initiatives with a sustainable impact.
The Governorate’s sponsorship of the exhibition reflects its strategic commitment to reinforcing community culture, promoting the principles of sustainability, and supporting initiatives that combine cultural and charitable work. Thereby contributing to achieving comprehensive community progress.

Muscat Governorate places particular emphasis on initiatives that target various society’s groups, to create an intellectual and aware generation while strengthening the values of social solidarity and responsibility.
This exhibition targets university and college students, school pupils, reading and culture enthusiasts, members of the local community, and volunteers, providing a platform that brings together knowledge and charitable work. Midad is an annual initiative that contributes to giving used books a new lease of life by collecting them from community members and making them available once again.
This exhibition aims to foster reading within society and provide an integrated cultural and interactive experience for visitors of all age groups. It supports charitable initiatives for orphans through innovative approaches funded by the exhibition’s proceeds.
The initiative encourages reusing books and reducing waste, engages the youth and develops their leadership, volunteerism, and community service skills, and make books available at nominal prices. This promote knowledge equity and expands access to sources of learning. It also inspires a love of reading and learning among children and young people through interactive activities that nurture imagination and intellectual awareness.

The exhibition offers visitors a comprehensive experience, beginning with an entrance that symbolises the revival of books and the opportunity to give them a new life. Visitors can explore various sections featuring books across numerous scientific, cultural, and educational fields. This environment provides an inspiring space for discovering literary and academic titles. Thereby strengthening visitors’ connection with reading and encouraging them to engage with accompanying activities that enrich their learning experience.
