Governorate`s jurisdictions

The Royal Decree No. 2022/36 has specified in Article (6) of the Governorates System that the Governorate shall have the following responsibilities within its geographical jurisdiction, after coordinating with the competent authorities:

  • Implementing the state`s general policy.
  • Ensuring the sovereignty of the law, protecting the interests of the state, and enhancing its prestige.
  • Developing and investing in the resources of the governorate and promoting them in order to achieve sustainable development and create job opportunities for citizens.
  • Working to benefit from the various components in the governorate.
  • Establishing and managing municipal facilities.
  • Protecting public property and removing encroachments on it.
  • Working to meet the governorate`s needs for public facilities and other government services.
  • Participating in urban planning.
  • Preserving the environment.
  • Implementing development projects specific to the governorate and overcoming the difficulties it faces.
  • Monitoring economic activities in the governorate, in a way that promotes their growth.
  • Working with relevant authorities regarding the preparation of national development plans and monitoring their implementation.
