Muscat Governorate Continues to Survey and Assess Buildings and Facilities Accessible to Persons with Disabilities

The team of the National Initiative for Surveying Buildings and Facilities Accessible to Persons with Disabilities in Muscat Governorate continues its field visits and coordination meetings with the Walis’ Offices and relevant entities in the wilayats, as part of the initiative’s efforts to survey and evaluate buildings and facilities have been adapted to meet the needs of persons with disabilities.

      In this context, His Excellency Dr Hamad bin Saeed Al Maamari, Wali of Mutrah, met with the initiative team attended by numerous officials from the wilayat. Dr Salem bin Saif Al Shu’aili, Head of the Team, delivered a visual presentation highlighting the objectives and significance of the initiative, the mechanisms for conducting the survey and assessment, and the standards adopted in the survey form, which are based on national and international references and standards.

    His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Ali Al Habsi, Wali of Bawshar, received the initiative team and was briefed on its duties and responsibilities, besides the methodology adopted for carrying out the survey and evaluation. The meeting addressed mechanisms for standardising assessment procedures and ensuring the accuracy of data collected during field visits.

     Dr Salem bin Saif Al Shu’aili stressed the importance of integrating the efforts of various sectors and relevant authorities and reinforcing coordination among them throughout the implementation stages of the initiative. This would facilitate the team’s work and field visits and contribute to achieving the objectives of the survey and assessment efficiently and accurately.

      These meetings form part of the field visit programme being carried out by the team across the wilayats of Muscat Governorate, in coordination with the Offices of the Walis and relevant entities, with the aim of completing the survey and assessment according to a unified methodology and generating data that will contribute to supporting efforts to enhance the accessibility of buildings and facilities for persons with disabilities.
