Bawshar to Host First Round of Oman Triathlon Championship 2026

21/08/2026

Bawshar will host the first round of the Oman Triathlon Championship League on Friday, marking the opening round of the inaugural five-round league for the 2026 sporting season. The tournament is organised by the Oman Triathlon Committee and will feature male and female triathletes from various categories.

The first round will begin at 6:00 am and continue until 8:00 am. The competition will start with the swimming event at Al Azaiba Beach, followed by the cycling event from Al Azaiba Beach to Al Mouj Roundabout, before concluding with the running event. This competition combines three sporting disciplines and requires high fitness and endurance, as well as the ability to transition quickly between the race stages.

The Al Azaiba round will serve as the opening stage of the league, which will be held over five rounds at numerous locations. This will provide athletes with regular competitions and continuous opportunities to develop their technical and physical abilities. Thus contributing to promoting triathlon and attracting more Omani talents.

The league places particular importance on younger age groups, with a special children`s race being introduced for the first time. This initiative aims to increase the sport`s participation base and identify talent at an early age. The junior race consists of a 300-metre swim followed by a one-kilometre run. Thereby providing a sporting experience suited to the children`s age, abilities, encouraging them to continue practicing sports, and developing their skills.

Bawshar`s hosting of the opening round is part of the ongoing sporting activity in Muscat Governorate and takes advantage of its diverse resources, waterfronts and open spaces to host high-quality sporting events. This reinforces the profile of individual sports and supports community involvement in sport.

The organisation of the league forms part of efforts to advance the triathlon system in Oman, raise the local competition and provide a continuous environment for monitoring athletes` performance and assessing their progress. This will contribute to identifying promising athletes and preparing them to compete at regional, continental and international tournaments.

Triathlon, also known as the three-discipline race, is a multi-sport event comprising three disciplines performed consecutively without interruption: swimming, cycling and running. It therefore provides a comprehensive test of athletes` physical and technical capabilities, combining speed, endurance and discipline in a single competition.

The five rounds are expected to witness strong competition among participants. Thereby enhancing the league`s role as a valuable milestone to advance players, raising competition in triathlon, and supporting the identification and development of Omani talent for the future.
