Muscat Governorate Launches "AI Explorers" Initiative Promoting Children`s Awareness of Modern Technologies and Future Skills

 Muscat Governorate launched the Artificial Intelligence Explorers initiative today in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, as part of efforts to raise awareness of emerging technologies and provide young people with innovation and digital transformation skills.

         Muscat University hosted the initiative events from 5 to 9 July 2026, the initiative brings together 20 children aged between 10 and 15 participate. The programme offers an interactive educational experience designed to simplify artificial intelligence (AI) concepts and introduce participants to its practical applications.

         This initiative forms part of Muscat Governorate`s commitment to supporting excellent initiatives aimed at developing the capabilities of younger generations, fostering innovation, and preparing children for the demands of the future by providing them with the knowledge and skills associated with AI technologies in a safe and engaging learning environment.

Building Digital Awareness from an Early Age

    Tou’a Abdullah Al Dawood, Head of the Development and Communications Department at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, explained that the initiative is based on the importance of introducing children to AI through enjoyable and interactive learning, away from technical complexity. She noted that the objective extends beyond teaching children how to use modern technologies; it also seeks to nurture a generation that understands AI, recognises its potential, and applies it responsibly and creatively to solve problems.

      She added that targeting children aged 10–15 is particularly important, as this stage plays a vital role in developing curiosity, a passion for exploration, and critical thinking, especially in light of the rapid digital transformation taking place worldwide. Preparing children to engage with these technologies, she said, represents a genuine investment in the future.

Skills beyond Technical Knowledge

     Al Dawood explained that the programme focuses not only on knowledge acquisition but also on developing a range of future-ready skills, foremost among them critical thinking. This enables children to verify and analyse information rather than relying entirely on AI-generated outputs. The programme also promotes creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and the responsible use of modern technologies.

    She highlighted that the programme adopts a hands-on learning approach through interactive activities, games, and practical experiments that allow children to explore how AI applications work in a simplified and engaging manner. She emphasised that the programme has been designed to accommodate all children, regardless of prior technical experience, beginning with fundamental concepts before progressing gradually to age-appropriate practical applications.

Investing in Future Skills

    Al Dawood concluded by affirming that initiatives are fully aligned with Oman`s vision of building a knowledge- and innovation-driven digital economy. She stressed that investing in children today is an investment in the nation`s future, preparing a generation capable of developing innovative solutions that serve society and the national economy.

     This programme reflects Muscat Governorate`s commitment and responsibility to empower future generations to meet the demands of tomorrow. It underscores investing in children`s skills development and strengthening their capabilities in modern technologies. Thereby creating an informed, creative generation that can confidently and responsibly adapt to the evolving digital landscape.

       The programme includes an educational journey exploring the everyday applications of AI. While promoting awareness of cyber security and the ethical use of technology. It also encourages collaboration and innovation values, providing an inspiring learning environment that motivates children to learn, discover, and create.
