Field Visit to Monitor the Mutrah Square Project and Agreements to Organise Beach and Protect Fishermen

As part of coordination and integration between government entities and monitoring development projects in Mutrah, the Maritime Affairs Committee`s members, the Wali of Mutrah Office`s representative, and the Mutrah Square Project`s Director, paid a field visit to the project site beside the Fish Market to follow up on the ongoing works and identify numerous aspects regarding the project’s implementation and organising use of the nearby beach.
During this visit, the existing piers that the project contractor intends to remove within its development works were inspected. Furthermore, closing the beach near the Market, which is approximately 28 metres long was discussed, to ensure implementing the works according to safety and regulatory requirements.
This visit resulted in an agreement with the project manager and the contractor to set 6 meters of the beach aside for the fishermen with boats at the site, including residents of Harat Al Shamal. Thereby continuing safe and organised fishing during implementing project.
Agreement was achieved for this company to lay a rope in the sea within the remaining area, placing warning buoys along it, to prevent entry of fishermen into the works zone and to reinforce public safety requirements.
It was decided to remove the metal pieces at the sea bottom near the floating pier, included in the development works, to boost public safety and protect fishermen’s boats during sailing or mooring from any potential risks.
The relevant officials emphasised that these arrangements are part of efforts to achieve a balance between implementing the Mutrah Square project, while protecting fishermen`s safety and rights. Thereby advancing the public interest and continuing maritime activities.
