Muscat Municipality Commences Implementation of Al Nuzha Street Dualisation Project to Enhance Road Efficiency and Keep Pace with Urban Growth

Muscat Municipality has signed the contract for the implementation of the Al Nuzha Street Dualisation Project. The agreement was signed by His Excellency Engineer Ahmed bin Said Al Ameri, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, marking the commencement of one of the strategic projects aimed at developing the road network and enhancing infrastructure efficiency in line with the rapid urban growth in Muscat Governorate.
The Municipality will begin on-site implementation works during the current month of June as part of its ongoing efforts to upgrade road infrastructure, improve traffic flow, and enhance safety standards for road users.
The project includes the construction of an 11-kilometre dual carriageway equipped with additional lanes to accommodate increasing traffic volumes, in addition to the implementation of 3.5 kilometres of service roads to serve the areas and facilities located along the route and improve accessibility.
The project comprises the construction of six major intersections equipped with the latest intelligent traffic signal systems, contributing to improved traffic management, reduced waiting times, smoother traffic movement, and enhanced road safety standards.
The project involves implementing an integrated storm water drainage system, including channels and multi-cell box culverts, alongside roadside drainage systems. This will enhance the road’s readiness during various weather conditions and improve surface water management efficiency. The project also includes the installation of a modern street lighting system using energy-efficient LED lighting.
Engineer Badr bin Ali Al Bahri, Director General of the General Directorate of Projects and Afforestation at Muscat Municipality, affirmed that the Al Nuzha Street Dualisation Project is one of the vital projects being implemented by the Municipality as part of its plans to advance and increase the operational efficiency of the road network in line with the urban expansion and population growth experienced in Muscat Governorate, particularly in vibrant areas populated with facilities and residential neighbourhoods.
He explained that the project forms part of the outcomes of the comprehensive traffic study being undertaken by the Municipality to identify strategic and sustainable solutions to current and future traffic challenges, while enhancing traffic flow between residential, commercial, and service areas.
He further added that the Municipality continues to implement a package of traffic and development projects aimed at increasing the road network’s capacity, improving road safety standards, and boosting infrastructure quality in support of sustainable urban development objectives and improved quality of life across the Governorate.
This project is expected to contribute to improved traffic flow and better service for residential neighbourhoods, vital facilities, and urban developments located along the road corridor. In addition to enhancing the efficiency of surface water drainage systems and strengthening infrastructure readiness. Thereby supporting Muscat Municipality’s efforts to accomplish a more efficient, safer, and sustainable road network.
