04/05/2026

The Marine Affairs Committee in Seeb held a meeting chaired by His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Shehhi, Wali of Seeb and Chairman of the Committee, attended by numerous local fishermen.

During this meeting, the urban landscape improvement project and boosting the organised use of the coast were discussed. While emphasising protection of fishermen’s interests and affecting their livelihoods. Organising fishermen’s awnings was addressed, in light of their random spread along the coastline. Thus, reorganising them that achieves a balance between urban development and sustaining the fishing profession is necessary.

The Committee reviewed three proposed sites for relocating the fishermen’s awnings, to be prepared that meets their needs through providing adequate space for fishing activities and appropriate areas for storing equipment and tools.

The Marine Affairs Committee in Seeb stressed ensuring that these sites are fully prepared before implementation begins. It highlighted the importance of involving fishermen in the planning and implementation stages to meet their actual requirements. Furthermore, complying with carrying out transfer procedures after providing appropriate alternatives fully.

This initiative comes in recognition of the fact that the fishing profession represents a primary source of income for fishermen. As well as being a traditional heritage, which requires handling this matter with a balanced social and economic approach.
