A Guidance Programme in Quriyat Boosts Fishermen’s Safety

Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Talal bin Saif bin Mohammed Al Hosani, Wali of Quriyat and Chairman of the Marine Affairs Committee, the Fisheries Development Department in Quriyat conducted a guidance programme for local fishermen. This programme was attended by numerous directors and heads of government sectors, along with sheikhs, citizens, and fishermen from coastal villages.
The programme reviewed the Executive Regulations of the Law on Living Aquatic Resources, with the aim of strengthening concepts of maritime safety and sustainability, and raising awareness among fishermen and workers in the marine fishing sector about the importance of complying with relevant legislation to ensure the protection and sustainability of marine resources.
It addressed key behaviours that should be promoted within the marine working environment, highlighting their positive impact on boosting working efficiency and reducing risks.
The programme featured a specialised lecture delivered by “ Tadoom”, which outlined the details of vessel tracking devices, including their technical specifications, operating mechanisms, and expected benefits. The presentation emphasised the role of these devices in boosting maritime safety, as they serve as a supportive tool for protecting sea-goers and a vital lifeline in emergencies and crises.
Furthermore, Sohar International Bank delivered a presentation on its initiatives supporting the fishing sector, including financing solutions and facilities offered to fishermen.
The programme concluded with interactive discussions among participants, during which several observations and enquiries were raised.
