The Wali of Seeb Discusses Solutions to Organise Unauthorised Awnings on the Waterfront

His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Shehhi, Wali of Seeb, met with the Deputy Director General of Muscat Municipality in Seeb, the Director of the Fisheries Department in Seeb. As well as, one of the elders of the coastal areas and a member of the Maritime Affairs Committee, to discuss numerous issues of mutual interest. Primary among these was addressing the phenomenon of unauthorised fishermen’s awnings along the waterfront.
This meeting reviewed the challenges associated with spreading these shelters and their impact on the overall appearance of the waterfront. It also discussed various proposals to organise them. Thus, this achieves a balance between the requirements of tourism progress and the preservation of fishermen’s rights and properties.
Participants emphasised the importance of identifying practical and sustainable solutions by assigning appropriate alternative locations for transferring these shelters. This approach aligns with tourism development plans, contributes to enhancing the wilayat’s civilized appearance, and ensures the continuity of the fishing profession and supporting workers in it.
This meeting concluded with a field visit to the waterfront to assess the current situation of the unauthorised shelters on-site, explore the effective ways to address this issue, and consider relocating them to appropriate locations that take into account organisational and environmental aspects. While preserving the sustainability of this long-established profession.
