Environmental Campaigns in Quriyat and Seeb Boost Beach Sustainability and Community Efforts

Within the framework of continuous environmental efforts in Muscat Governorate, and consistent with plans to reduce mesquite trees across various governorates implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Quriyat and Seeb conducted numerous environmental campaigns that reflect institutional and community collaboration to protect the environment.
In Quriyat, a clean-up campaign was carried out with the participation of specialists from relevant entities in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, alongside a number of members from the Shura Council and Municipal Council. These efforts come initiatives aimed at reducing the spread of mesquite trees and enhancing ecological balance. These activities were accompanied by voluntary community campaigns to clean beaches and coastal areas of waste, with wide youth participation, highlighting the growing public awareness of the importance of preserving the cleanliness of the marine environment.
In Seeb, and in implementation of the recommendations of the recent meeting of the Sea Practices Committee, a beach clean-up campaign was launched with the participation of the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in Seeb and the Department of Fisheries. This initiative comes within the framework of integrated efforts among concerned entities to enhance marine environmental sustainability by removing waste and cleaning coastal sites that are increasingly frequented by beachgoers and fishermen.
The campaign covered several key locations, where waste was collected and disposed of safely. Participating entities emphasised that such initiatives embody shared responsibility in protecting natural resources and support the promotion of a culture of environmental volunteerism.
The Sea Practices Committee in Seeb called upon society’s groups to cooperate and actively contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of beaches, given their environmental, economic and tourism significance. The committee affirmed that these efforts form part of various programmes and activities that boost preserving marine resources and raise environmental awareness.
