The Marine Affairs Committee in Seeb discusses developing fisheries sector and reviews investment and environmental initiatives

The Marine Affairs Committee in Seeb held its first meeting of 2026, attended by committee members representing the relevant entities.
During this meeting, the Committee discussed various topics, including implementing numerous items relating to its work, specifically submitting proposals and recommendations to advance and improve fisheries resources. Thereby this optimises benefits from marine resources and boosts their sustainability.
The committee reviewed fishermen’s requirements in terms of advisory programmes and examined implementing mechanisms to contribute to raising workers’ efficiency in the fisheries sector. As well as, discussing approaches to improve the management and operation of fishing ports and enhance services and facilities in these harbours and fish landing sites.
The committee emphasised supporting the artisanal fishery, as an authentic Omani profession, through presenting initiatives and recommendations that contribute to preserving it and promoting its continuance for future generations.
This committee discussed introducing initiatives regarding investment in the fisheries sector in Seeb. Thereby, it contributes to maximising its economic returns.
It reviewed the artisanal fishing boats tracking project, which is being implemented in collaboration with the "Tadoom" company. Furthermore, the committee’s support for this project, which aims to strengthen maritime safety and organise fishing activities.
Referring to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources’ initiative regarding cleaning beaches in April, the committee highlighted the significance of community and official entities joining efforts to protect the marine environment.
