Field Visit to the Darsait-Aint Marina to Discuss Fishermen`s Challenges

As part of strengthening institutional integration and coordination between government entities, a field visit was paid to the Darsait-Aint Marina project site in Mutrah. , attended by a representative from the Wali of Mutrah Office, specialists from the General Directorate of Fishing Ports, the Fisheries Development Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Resources, the Maritime Traditions Committee’s members, the project contractor, and numerous local fishermen.
This field visit aimed to identify key challenges facing fishermen when sailing the seas. During this visit, numerous observations regarding the safety of sailing, and procedures for entering and leaving beaches were noted, particularly regarding the impact of climate change on fishing activities.
During this visit, creating a contingency plan to deal with extreme weather conditions was discussed, thereby boosting safety procedures for fishermen and minimising potential risks during adverse weather periods. As well as, reviewing appropriate solutions to address sand accumulation on beaches, which constitutes a challenge that hinders boat movement on site.
This visit forms part of continuous efforts to advance fishing sites and the associated infrastructure. Thus, it supports the fishing sector, boosts its sustainability, and enhances safety and the services available to fishermen in Mutrah.
