The Sea Traditions Committee in Seeb Discusses Organising Fishing Affairs

The Sea Traditions Committee in Seeb held a meeting chaired by His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al-Shehhi, Wali of Seeb and Committee Chairman, to discuss numerous topics relating to organising the fishing sector and optimising the services provided to fishermen.
During this meeting, the Committee reviewed the Muscat Municipality`s initiative to provide canopies for fishermen in Al-Manouma area, to enhance the working environment and safety and comfort for fishing workers. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources` proposal to establish gatherings for fishermen. Thereby contributing to organising fishing activities were discussed.
The meeting addressed numerous issues linked to organising the coastline, including removing environmental pollutants such as boats, carts, cars, nets and dilapidated fishing equipment along the beaches, due to their harmful effects on the environment. As well as, discussing fishing using ‘dugawis’ and its impact on fishing nets, and the damages caused by using cages. The committee reviewed regulating the licensing of artisanal fishing vessels and transitioning from a personal ownership system to institutional ownership.
It concluded by summarising numerous problems facing fishermen and discussing appropriate solutions in coordination with the relevant entities, to achieve a balance between protecting the marine environment, supporting fishermen, and improving living conditions.
