Visit the Hydrogen Fuel Station in Muscat, an Advanced Step to a Sustainable Energy Future

As part of the Oman Institute for Energy`s renewable energy training programme in Muscat, a group of professionals and specialists from Muscat Governorate and Muscat Municipality visited the Hydrogen Fuel Station inaugurated by Shell Oman near Muscat International Airport on Thursday.
During this visit, the participants were briefed on the station`s components and technologies. It is the first in the Middle East to combine the production, distribution, and packaging of green hydrogen in one location, utilising solar energy electrolysis technology to generate approximately 130 kg per day of green hydrogen.
This visit aimed to link theoretical training with practical application, introduce participants to the support of green hydrogen for sustainability, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. As well as, highlighting the effective partnership between the government and private sectors to implement modern energy projects. It incentivised local competencies to explore innovation opportunities in clean energy, confirming the strategic role of Muscat Governorate in supporting national projects supporting Oman`s Vision 2040.
A National Achievement Boosts Oman`s Vision 2040
The station was inaugurated as Shell`s Gift to Homeland in its sixth edition, to advance sustainable mobility solutions in Oman, aligning with Oman`s Vision 2040 and Carbon Neutral 2050 plans.
This station also offers additional options including fast charging for electric vehicles and conventional fuelling. Thus, supporting the energy transformation efforts and infrastructure readiness for sustainable transport.
Comprehensive Training Programme
This visit was part of the three-day professionals` programme. It focused on five key topics, specifically, future energy mix, decarbonisation, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, renewable energy sources, case studies and potential opportunities to Oman.
This programme aims to enable participants to increase their knowledge in energy transition, sustainability, energy efficiency, and modern energy technologies.
Muscat Governorate Starting
This programme kicked off this week with a training programme for Muscat Governorate`s government executive officers, attended by His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, Their Excellencies the Walis, and several Directors-General and officials in the municipal sector.
The programme reflects the Muscat Governorate`s pivotal role in supporting national initiatives for renewable energy through infrastructure and urban services to empower modern energy projects. As well as, the practical commitment to contribute to achieving the purposes of Oman`s Vision 2040 through utilising national efficiencies and implementing innovative solutions to support sustainable development.
