Quriyat, like other wilayats in Muscat Governorate, is experiencing a developmental process that reflects the government`s directive to achieving comprehensive and balanced progress, aligning with the objectives of “Oman 2040” Vision. Qualitative and strategic projects divided into various sectors, promoting the economy, creating job opportunities, and enhancing Quriyat ranking as a promising tourist and investment destination.
His Excellency Sheikh Talal bin Saif bin Mohammed Al Hosani, Wali of Quriyat, stated that the wilayat has experienced a remarkable progress in services and infrastructure during recent years. Quriyat has achieved a series of significant projects, including the paving of internal roads as part of Muscat Municipality`s annual plan, beautifying the waterfront in Al Sahil village, and constructing sports walkways to promote public health. New schools have been constructed and the expanding of current schools to accommodate population growth," he added.
He noted that the Wadi Dayqa Dam has contributed to stabilising the water supply, minimising the flooding impacts, and boosting agricultural sector activity. Regarding the municipal field, the new Muscat Municipality building was recently inaugurated in Al Shahbari area, which is one of the largest service facilities in Quriyat and consists of more than 120 offices with the latest technical and technological standards.
- Major Vital Projects under Implementation
His Excellency the Wali pointed out that the development is progressing steadily in Quriyat, with the implementation of several vital projects. They include the first stage of the Al Sahil neighbourhood project, which is considered the first of its kind, occupying more than 1.3 million square metres, costing approximately 385 million Omani Riyals (OMR). This project features constructing numerous residential units, hotels and a walkway. Thus contributing to employing job seekers and promoting the tourism and economic mobility. The project reflects the Sultanate of Oman`s directive to balanced development that keeps pace with the modern age while preserving the heritage identity.
His Excellency added that Muscat Municipality has issued a tender to develop Hawiyat Najm Park, a pioneering project in Muscat Governorate, which provides appropriate places for camping and public facilities to serve visitors, etc. Other specific projects in Quriyat include constructing a water purification station at Wadi Dayqa Dam with a daily production capacity of 65,000 cubic metres.
As well as, paving new internal roads according to Muscat Municipality`s annual plan in Quriyat, and inaugurating the Misfat Wadi Bridge project, which links the road between the Daghamer Roundabout and the wilayat centre Roundabout. The pier project and the breakwater improvement at the Harbour are implementing.
Water delivery projects were implemented in various areas of Quriyat, while others are being implemented in the Hail Al Ghaf village and Hai Al Dhahir.
- Partnerships with the Private Sector
His Excellency the Wali explained that the development projects depend on a strategic partnership between the public and private sectors. The ‘Al Sahel Neighbourhood’ project is being implemented in cooperation between Quriyat Development Company and Al Madinah Real Estate Company. Besides, the 200,000 cubic metres daily desalination station using reverse osmosis technology. This project aims to fulfil the increasing demand for water in this region, and exemplifies the cooperation between government entities and the private sector in the infrastructure field.
Promoting the Tourism Sector
Regarding the tourism sector, His Excellency the Wali indicated that Muscat Governorate makes great efforts to promote this sector in Quriyat through implementing numerous projects. For instance, the recent launch of Ghaf Resort in Dhabab, stimulating water and adventure activities at Wadi Dayqah Dam. It offers various activities for different age groups, including circular boats, pedal boats, paddleboard boats, and mountain bikes. The Waterfront, Creb Walkway, Hawiyat Najm Park and the Al Sahil Neighbourhood project are currently developing. As well as, promoting investment in tourist camps in the Fens, Bimmah and Dhabab districts, and launching the Quriyat E-Portal, which provides information for visitors.
- Effective Community Involvement
He pointed out that the local community interacts remarkably with development initiatives and social projects. Thus reflecting a greater awareness of involvement in improving the quality of life and achieving sustainable development, especially in the initiatives planning and prioritising development projects, ensuring their compliance with their exact requirements.
Supporting Employment, Entrepreneurship and Youth Empowerment:
His Excellency confirmed that the Wali of Quriyat Office has initiated several initiatives to support employment and entrepreneurship. They include coordinating with the Labour Department to provide job opportunities for job seekers and addressing companies and projects. Furthermore, the Quriyat Charity Team implements the "Itqan" initiative to qualify and train residents in various fields to meet the modern-age requirements.
In the youth empowerment field, he highlighted that the Wali of Quriyat Office acts as a link between youth and the relevant entities. The Office submit the youth needs and priorities to these entities and participating to implement national initiatives that empower young people in the fields of entrepreneurship, sports, culture and voluntary work. It supports voluntary associations and teams, facilitates their licences, provides logistical support, engages in their activities, and coordinates conducting workshops or awareness-raising seminars. Additionally, conducting some training workshops for staff for government officials in Quriyat.
In terms of environment, HE Sheikh clarified that the Wali of Quriyat Office and Muscat Governorate attach great priority to sustainable natural resources through monitoring the water quality of the Wadi Dayqah Dam and performing environmental studies to evaluate the dam`s impact on the region`s ecological system.
As well as, green landscaping and walkway within the ‘Al Sahil Neighbourhood’ project, arranging cleaning campaigns of beaches and valley streams by the concerned authorities, community teams and schools, strict control on fishing activities, and regulating ports` use to reduce marine pollution.
- Challenges and Prospective Plans
Discussing the challenges, HE Sheikh stated that the wilayat faces challenges associated with population growth and the services’ disparities between villages. Thus, they require developing new housing designs and introducing remote villages that suffer from poor basic services into plans of government service projects gradually.
He announced a plan to arrange an annual meeting with government and private entities, businessmen and owners of small and medium enterprises to discuss future development plans and investment opportunities.
His Excellency Sheikh Talal bin Saif bin Mohammed Al Hosani concluded by appreciating the Quriyat people and all government and private institutions, confirming that Quriyat and its people are examples of generosity, patience, ambition and ancient history. The developmental steps experienced nowadays are the result of support, cohesion and insistence to achieve better future.
