Wali of Quriyat sponsors ‘Values and Belonging’ Programme to promote Children`s Rights and National Identity

His Excellency Sheikh Talal bin Saif bin Mohammed Al Hosani, Wali of Quriyat, sponsored the awareness programme ‘Values and Belonging’, arranged by the Oman Human Rights Commission in cooperation with the Children First Association. Several representatives of government entities, civil society institutions, the private sector, parents and specialists in children’s rights attended this programme.
His Excellency Sheikh Talal bin Saif Al Hosani affirmed that promoting national principles and values among young people and raising awareness of children`s rights is important, noting that children are the nation`s valuable source of future, and caring for and protecting them is a common responsibility. He indicated that the Wali of Quriyat Office`s participation in sponsoring this programme reflects the significance of efforts to promote awareness of children`s rights, according to national and international charters, and to protect children against cruelty and violence. It aims to promote the concepts of citizenship, strengthen identity and loyalty, educate students, parents and teachers to prevent bullying, and create a safe school environment of respect and tolerance.
This programme included several visual presentations. The Values and Belonging presentation highlighted importance of promoting moral and national values through acting attitudes in children`s daily lives. While the second presentation focused on bullying, its types and negative impacts, providing practical solutions to deal with it.
The first working paper delivered by Ahmed bin Nasser Al Rashidi, Director of Monitoring and Complaints Receiving Department in the OHRC, reviewed the Committee`s efforts to protect and enhance children`s rights, receiving complaints and collaborating with concerned entities, locally and internationally. The second working paper delivered by Mabrouka bint Abdullah Al Jardani, Board Member of the Children First Association, highlighted the ‘Omani National Identity’ concept and the association`s support for children through educational, awareness and cultural programmes.
This programme concluded with an awareness-raising film on the citizenship concepts, focusing on enhancing children`s national identity through values including social responsibility, law-respect, and community involvement.
Organising these programmes receives continuous support from Muscat Governorate, representing the Wali of Quriyat Office, within the framework of supporting community initiatives that enhance national awareness, protect the rights of young people, and contribute to achieving a cohesive society.
