Muscat Governorate launches Awareness Campaign to reduce Food Waste

Muscat Governorate launched a multilingual awareness campaign entitled ‘Take Just What You Need’ to raise awareness about preserving food and reducing food waste. This campaign pursues to solve the issue of food waste by encouraging people to buy or prepare only the amount of food they need and reduce the extra going to landfill.
The ‘Take Just What You Need’ campaign isa result of food waste. Large quantities of food - too many to count - are still thrown in or next to landfills, and over time these foods spoil, releasing smells that annoy residents of the surrounding area and attract insects and mosquitoes. As well as, it increases the effort and exhaustion of cleaners and creates the need to expand their efforts to remove the garbage and treat the resulting pollution.
This initiative highlighted several main messages that all should consider when consuming food, including thanking Allah for his blessings, appreciating blessings, and helping needy people instead of wasting. Through these initiatives, Muscat Governorate hopes to promote the values of responsibility within the community and raise awareness of appreciating blessings.
