Launching the National Non-Communicable Diseases Survey in Muscat Governorate

His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal AlBusaidi, Governor of Muscat, sponsored the launch ceremony of the NationalNon-Communicable Diseases Survey in Muscat Governorate, which is organised by the Ministry of Health today (Tuesday). His Excellency Dr Saeed bin Hareb bin Manna Al Lamki, Undersecretary for Health Affairs in the Ministry of Health, His Excellency Muscat Municipality head, Their Excellencies the Walis and a number of health sector specialists presented it.

The survey aims to collect accurate and comprehensive data on non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. They represent a serious challenge to the society’s health, as it affects individuals` quality of life significantly. The survey focuses on creating a reliable database that contributes to analyse the risk factors of these diseases. Thus, supporting the development of effective plans and strategies based on scientific foundations to deal with health challenges and enhance prevention, and improve the health of the Sultanate of Oman`s inhabitants.
The National Non-Communicable Diseases Survey targets citizens and residents aged 15 years and above through implementing successive field visits to residential neighborhoods to collect data and take samples. This survey is an important step to achieve the targets of Oman`s Vision 2040, which considers public health as a cornerstone of sustainable development. Through this project, the Ministry of Health increases the prevention of non-communicable diseases and develop plans and strategies using scientific foundations to solve health challenges effectively.

H.E. Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi praised the Ministry of Health`s efforts to organise the national survey, and stressed that efforts between the various entities is important to achieve the project`s purposes. His Excellency urged the walis to raise awareness on this survey and its role to enhance public health, and to cooperate with the field teams. As well as, he highlighted that improving prevention and the quality of life will contribute to a healthy and sustainable future for all society members.
