His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal AlBusaidi, Governor of Muscat, sponsored the inaugural ceremony of the two-dayseminar ‘Mutrah through History’, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in collaboration with the Office of Wali of Mutrah, at Majan University College today (Wednesday).
The seminar aimed to highlight the ancient history and cultural heritage of Mutrah, which reflects its civilizational status through the ages. The seminar is a remarkable scientific and cultural event that contributes to document the cultural and historical heritage.
The seminar included various scientific topics and research documents prepared by a group of specialists, where five scientific papers were presented on the first day. The first scientific paper was titled ‘Mutrah in the Visual Image’, while the second discussed‘ Inspiration for Oman`s Vision 2040: A Vocabulary of Originality and a Symphony of Creativity’. The third paper focused on ‘Medical and Treatment Services in Mutrah between 1909 and 1970’, while the fourth paper analyzed ‘Mutrah in the writings of Orientalists and their visual history’. The fifth paper discussed ‘Education in Mutrah (1888-1970)’.
The second day of the seminar will present four other scientific papers. They will include ‘The Geology of Mutrah: A Natural Heritage’, ‘Samples of Archaeological and Architectural Monuments in Mutrah’, ‘Mutrah through Notebooks’, and ‘Rituals of Crossing and Healing in Mutrah through Models of Omani Narrative’.
The sessions will include discussions and dialogues between the presenters and attendees, which will enhance comprehension and awareness of Mutrah`s history.
The seminar pursues to highlight the historical importance of Mutrah and promote its cultural identity. It also provides scientific visions that contribute to protect heritage and utilize it for cultural and societal development. Its outcomes are expected to be a valuable platform to enhance knowledge and confirm Mutrah’s position as a cultural and civilizational center.
