Within the framework of the cooperation between Quriyat Wali Office and the Environment Authority to support the campaign to eradicate invasive birds. HE Sheikh Talal bin Saif bin Mohammed Al Hosani, Quriyat wali, chaired a coordination meeting with specialists from the Authority, in the presence of two Municipal Council’s members, and representatives from Muscat Municipality Directorate in Quriyat, Agricultural and Water Resources Centre, Housing and Urban Planning Department, and Quriyat Police Station.
During the meeting, various topics relating to the campaign implementation, and the tasks’ distribution among the relevant entities to ensure effective coordination, ways to periodically monitor the environmental situation and take the necessary procedures to reduce these birds’ influence on biodiversity were discussed. The participating entities have confirmed their readiness to utilise all available efforts and resources to make the campaign successful.
The campaign aims to reduce the invasive birds’ influence on the local environment, especially in agricultural and wild areas, where they threaten biodiversity and agricultural crops. The campaign will be implemented using effective control methods. They include the invasive birds’ removing from the damaged areas, and raise awareness among the local community about preserving the ecosystem. Additionally, sustainable strategies’ implementation to ensure that this issue does not reoccur in the future.
Muscat Governorate contributes effectively to this campaign through coordination between various government and municipal entities to ensure the campaign purposes’ achievement in preserving the environment and sustainable development. The governorate is working to provide technical and logistical support to ensure that the campaign is implemented fully, and to provide the necessary abilities to monitor the environmental situation in the targeted areas.
