Muscat Governorateon Wednesday hosted the National Digital Economy Programme, organized by theMinistry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology incollaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion,the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Central Bank of Oman. Theprogram will introduce participants, including government employees, teachers,students at universities and colleges, those interested in the program, andcommunity members generally in the governorate, to the digital economy’sconcepts, its importance, strategic directions, and future projects.
This program aimsto introduce government initiatives in the digital transformation, E-commerceand financial technologies within efforts to support the digital economy andachieve the purposes of Oman`s Vision 2040 for an integrated digitalinfrastructure. It aims to enable skills and efficiencies according to thelabour market’s requirements and the fast technological future, achieve smart governmenttransformation programs, provide effective governance, create, and localizemodern technologies. In addition to creating a digital society that isresponsive to the requirements of the future, and rehabilitating theInformation Technology and Communications infrastructure to meet the rapidtechnological changes.

The programincluded various presentations, with the Ministry of Transport, Communicationsand Information Technology introduced the National Digital Economy andGovernment Transformation Program. Then, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry andInvestment Promotion reviewed the E-commerce plan. The Central Bank of Omanpresented a working paper on its Financial Technology Implementation Program.The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority discussed the DigitalInfrastructure Implementation Program. At the program’s conclusion, an opendiscussion session was held, giving attendees the opportunity to present theirsuggestions and discuss their ideas.
Through thisprogram, Oman aims to achieve various purposes that will contribute to develop aprosperous digital economy that is responsive to the future requirements. Thisprogram identifies many digital economy cornerstones and medium- and long-termpurposes associated with Oman Vision 2040, which will be achieved throughvarious programs and executive plans related to the digital economy.
