Toenhance its continuing efforts to modernize its services and enhance itsoperations’ efficiency, Muscat Municipality announced the launch of a tender toimplement an advanced system to manage and track its vehicle fleet. Thisproject comes in cooperation with the Oman Energy Association (OPAL). As it isthe body concerned to determine best practices regarding specifications andprocedures for the fleet management and vehicle tracking system in the oil andgas sector. This project is part of digital transformation strategy that aimedto digitize municipal operations and services, and enhance sustainability andinnovation in the municipal work system according to the Sultanate of Oman’svision to government digital transformation and transforming its cities intosmart and sustainable cities.

The Muscat Municipality vehicle fleet management and tracking systemenables all fleet management processes’ automation, including purchasing,vehicles and equipment registration and canceling, and maintenance andoperation works, which significantly enhances its efficiency. The system usesadvanced technologies such as GPS and sensors to collect and analyze precisedata about the vehicles’ location, fuel consumption and fleet performance. Thesystem contributes to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency via fuelmanagement’s improvement, preventive maintenance, and vehicle routing. The systemalso provides higher levels of safety by continually monitoring the vehicles’condition and quickly intervening when needed. The system also provides vitaldata that supports making strategic decisions regarding vehicle replacement,daily operations’ management, and maintenance and insurance contracts. As wellas, the system`s ability to provide reports and analyzes that contribute to theeffective specification of resources, by the grace of its advanced vehicletracking abilities. It, which makes investment in it a strategic step toachieve sustainable financial savings and enhance the overall efficiency offleet management.
Thefleet management system offers great added value because it is based onautomation and advanced technology. The system is expected to support low-codetechnology that will contribute to simplify system specification and modify itto suit the Muscat Municipality’s needs. This technology allows changes and newsettings to be made quickly and easily, without the need for advancedprogramming experiences. This enhances the system’s flexibility and its abilityto adapt to future changes, guaranteeing the high performance’s continuousnessof the system.

Thegains resulting from the partnership between Muscat Municipality and “OPAL”will contribute to enhance the quality of vehicle tracking devices by requiringthat the supplying companies obtain a qualified certificate by the Oman EnergyAssociation (OPAL). This requirement increases the demand for this certificate,which increases companies’ compliance rates with optimal specifications andstandards. Therefore, it contributes to improve the used devices’ quality andenhances the fleet management system’s efficiency generally.
It isworth noting that the project implementation will include four main stages.They are evaluation and planning of current municipal systems. Then, the fleetmanagement system and database’s implementation, which includes systeminstallation and data integration. Followed by user training and systemoperation. Finally, the follow-up and improvement stage to monitor performanceand make the necessary adjustments. With this approach, Muscat Municipality ismoving forward to enhance its digital transformation, automate its operationalprocesses, and digitize its services. Taking advantage of the moderntechnologies to improve its services well, while enhancing sustainability insystems and operational efficiency.
