The “Sports Spark” sporting event will continue in its second week, until August 24, 2024,at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center within various sporting activities and initiatives that target all family members.
Summer Camp and Martial Arts
The summer camp offers several events, sports activities and various entertainment competitions that target children from 6 to 14 years old, including martial arts. Wadah Al Harithi - from the Events Department at the Oman Exhibition and Convention Center and the organization officer to the martial arts tournament - said about children’s participation in martial arts: “There is a clear request from children, as the number of children participating in the program reached one hundred children, who were divided into groups of forty children everyday. In an effort to give the largest number of participants the opportunity to learn these various martial arts”.
Al Harithi pointed out that focusing aim on this sport is to highlight it and enhance its presence in the sports sector. This is because of the demand this sport has witnessed at the regional and international levels. Martial arts were included this year in the summer camp because of their many benefits. For example, discipline andself-control, the treatment way, and self-defense, which the child benefits from it in early stages of life.
He also added,“Martial arts are also available in the evening for adults to anyone who wishes to attend to follow up or participate. It is a dynamic sport and has many benefits. For example, burning fat, physical strength and enhancing a number of behaviors such as self-control”.
Martial Arts Championship
Wadah Al-Harithistated that the martial arts tournament would be held on August 16, 2024,within the “Sports Spark” programs and events. The tournament will be in partnership with an Omani company that specialized in this type of tournament’s organization. This tournament aims to enhance interest in martial arts and display them to the Omani community. There is a percentage of Omani athletes who participated in local and international tournaments. We have also witnessed the rise of several martial arts clubs and Omani athletes who have achieved achievements abroad.
Al-Harithi said:“The tournament, which will be held on August 16, is a mini-tournament, which will be held in a smaller boxing ring, and the number of rounds has been reduced. This is because of the increase in the participants’ number in the tournament and the chance opening for passionate people to participate. There will also be referees from abroad, and an Omani medical and medical advisory team that are specialized in martial arts”. He added, on August 15, there would be several measures, including tournament participants’ weight, introducing them to the tournament’s guidelines and rules, and what must be committed to during the tournament in terms of security and safety.
Women Day
Pursuing by Muscat Governorate to provide a specialized sports environment for women, specific days have been selected for them within sporting events. This is to keep their privacy and provide them with the opportunity to practice sports activities in an appropriate environment.
Amir Al-Aisari,Director of the Sports Spark Event and Director of Commercial Operations for SABCO Sports, said that the first Women’s Day - which was on August 3 - was very popular with participants.
The number of participants reached 40 women and families. We hope that the number will increase on the next Women`s Day. Al-Aisari added that the sporting events also included aerobics and self-defense classes, in addition to Zumba and yoga classes.
Saturday - August 17- will also be a day selected for women, from three in the evening until twelve after midnight. Female who wish to participate can register via the website or WhatsApp number, for a fee of only 5 riyals.
