Today, Mutrah wali`s office held a meeting to discuss ways to develop the Muttrah Fish Market and improve working conditions for fishermen. The meeting was chaired by AbdulHamid bin Abdul Rahman Al Kharousi, Mutrah wali`s deputy. In the presence of the municipal council`s member representing the wilayat, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources` officials, Muscat Municipality`s officials in Mutrah, and Sea Traditions Committee`s members.
During the meeting, the difficulties facing fishermen and workers in the fish market were discussed, and discuss appropriate solutions to simplify it. The controls` establishment for fish sellers, arrange and unify fishing platforms, and a proposal to unify the fish cutting workers` uniforms were also reviewed. Additionally, the market calling system`s implementation and specify its working hours.
To enhance community participation, it was suggested that the Sea Traditions Committee`s members meet with fishermen and cutters` representatives to discuss proposals that would increase the market performance`s effectiveness. These steps come to develop the work environment in the fish market in Mutrah and improve its workers` conditions. It enhances the fisheries sector`s position in the Sultanate of Oman.
