His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi,Muscat Governor, headed the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman thatparticipate in the twenty-seventh meeting of the Committee of TheirExcellencies the Ministers Concerned with Municipal Affairs of the CooperationCouncil for the Arab States of the Gulf, which was held in Qatar capital city,Doha, today, Thursday (May 30, 2024).
The meeting was opened with aspeech by His Excellency Mr. Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah, theMinister of Municipality. During it, he spoke about the importance of commonefforts’ continuance, to achieve the visions and directions of Their Majestiesand Highnesses, the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries inunifying efforts to common Gulf work that meets the needs, aspirations andhopes of the GCC countries’ citizens in the municipal work’s field. As well as,exchanging experiences and knowledge related to Arabian Gulf municipal affairs,and making decisions that consider the common nature of issues of common Gulfaffairs, especially in the urban planning and environmental resources’ fields.His Excellency the Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the ArabStates of the Gulf also gave a welcome speech that touched on the done effortsand initiatives that develop the municipal sector’s management and enable itwith other sectors in sustainable development. His Excellency the QatariMinister of Municipality - Chairman of the current session - gave his thanks,appreciation and gratefulness to the sisterly Sultanate of Oman for its greatrole during its presidency of the last session in 2023. It contributed tosupport and enhance our common Gulf municipal work’s process for our Gulfcountries and peoples’ interest. His Excellency Muscat governor had the honourof greetings’ conveying of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq the Great tohis brother His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the Stateof Qatar, during the meeting of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin AbdulRahman, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, with their Excellenciesthe heads of the participating delegations.
The ministerial meeting discussed the agenda anddecisions’ project by the General Secretariat. As well as, the recommendationssubmitted in the report of the preparatory meeting of the Coordination andFollow-up Committee in the municipal work’s field, which were submitted to themeeting of Their Excellencies senior municipal officials in the GCC countries,which was held on Tuesday, May 28. Among them is discussion of the decisions’ implementationissued by the Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States regarding strategicurban planning and the urban environment. They included use organization of solarenergy panels in buildings, integrated waste management system, urbanlandscaping and urban design, and searching sustainable mobility options in theGCC countries. Additionally, highlighting implementation of specializedworkshops and workshops in urban planning and other recommendations submittedto Their Excellencies the Ministers’ meeting concerned with municipal affairsin the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to issue their decisions regardingthem.
The meeting alsoreviewed the decisions of the Ministerial Council regarding following up ondevelopments in the launch of the electronic version of the Gulf ConstructionCode, and discussing the development of regulations and municipal supervisionsystems in several fields. For example, booking’s organization of abandonedcars, group housing organization, and Public health pest control … etc.Additionally, discussing the development of a system to classify contractors inthe building and construction sector and discussing the joint Gulf municipalwork plan (2024-2030). Besides, signing agreements with specializedorganizations that serve the municipal field. As well as, the views on theagreement and advance preparation for the Gulf Municipal Week, gulf MunicipalWork Conference and the Cooperation Council Award for Municipal Work. It highlightson Gulf municipal work in regional and international forums and exchangingexperiences and knowledge between member states in areas of joint municipalwork. The Omani participating delegation in the ministerial meeting includedHis Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al-Ghassani, Dhofar Municipality head,Engineer Mohammed bin Saif Al Ameri, Director General of Governorate Affairs atthe Ministry of Interior, Engineer Suleiman bin Hamad Al Sunaidi, DirectorGeneral of Al Dakhiliya Municipality, Engineer Musa bin Saeed Al Abri, DirectorGeneral of Al Buraimi Municipality, and Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal Al-Maamari,Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry ofInterior.
